Talia Cuomo is an actress best known for her controversial role as a child bride forced to marry a 40-year-old man in the NBC series “New Amsterdam”. This New Jersey native has also had roles in “Life & Beth”, “FBI” and “Lisey’s Story” as well as the blockbuster film “Oceans 8”. I recently had the opportunity to interview Talia about her acting career and what else she has planned in 2024

What drew you into acting?

I was only four years old when I started. I really had no idea what I was doing.

I was very bubbly, very extroverted and my mom saw that as a spark for something.   My family and friends described me as having a “big personality”; so, my mom was encouraged to explore the entertainment business for me.

What do you love about acting?

I love just about everything.  I get to be someone else for a short spell and put myself in someone else’s shoes. I love being creative and telling the character’s story and trying out different approaches and techniques that I have learned along the way and from my coach. I love reading the scripts and learning about aspects of life that I would otherwise never have been aware of.  I love auditioning and making self-tapes.  I love being on set, observing the behind-the-scenes process, techniques with the camera and watching directors work.  Meeting the people that make up the industry is a highlight of the job!

You played a very controversial role in “New Amsterdam” as a young girl forced to marry an older man. How did you prepare for that role?

I read the script, practiced with my acting coach and memorized my lines. I put myself in Lily’s shoes. I am obviously not Lily and never have been in that position, so I was using my imagination of what it would be like.  I did a little bit of research on catatonia, which is what Lilly was experiencing for the majority of the episode and brought that into my performance.

What is your advice for keeping a healthy work/life balance?

Organizing my time and managing my priorities.  Time management is key!

Tell us something people would be surprised to learn about you.

I am really into everything old! I like learning about older music, history, and fashion, like from the 1800s to the 2000s! I specifically love learning about history, from way back in the 1700s to the early 1900s.

What are your goals for 2024?

I would love to book a new and big role! And just keep practicing my art. On another note, I also want to maintain great grades in school; next year will be my first year in high school. Thinking about taking on a new instrument as well!

Any upcoming projects you can share?

I am thinking about producing, writing, and directing a short film!
