Zachery Renauldo is an actor and growing TikTok star in Los Angeles. He is best known to his growing fan base as the Dungeons and Dragon TikTok creator Zach the Bold. Zach is known for creating viral videos that mimic his inner dialogue while playing the popular game.
Interview With TikTok Star Zachery Renauldo
I recently had the opportunity to interview Zach about his start in TikTok, how he comes up with content, and if there is anything coming up for 2024.
What drew you into Dungeons and Dragon or DnD as the fans call it?
I got hooked on podcasts, especially NADDPOD and Dimension 20, which led to me convincing my college lacrosse buddies to play a poorly made DnD campaign I made up. To this day it has been one of the best campaigns I have ever run because it was such a mess, and no one could correct me because they also had no idea what was going on.
What was the catalyst for starting a DnD TikTok?
After two years of random comedy sketches on TikTok, I decided to do add a DnD twist to a trend, and it hit a million views in two days. I thought it was a fluke, but I continued making DnD-related videos anyway and they consistently performed well. My past experience in video production and theater has also helped me tell original stories with a higher production value than you typically see on the platform.
What is your formula for creating content?
I listen to dramatic music from various films, creating scenarios in my head drawing from past DnD experiences. After setting a dramatic scene, I add a twist that subverts typical story expectations, like the best moments of an actual DnD campaign.
Tell us about your video so far.
While all my content is DnD-related, I keep it in the “general fantasy” realm to appeal to non-DnD players. I attribute my success to avoiding typical “DnD” jokes and adding original twists to keep things fresh.
What is your advice for keeping a healthy work/life balance?
Fortunately, my content ideas come from playing or watching DnD, which in turn reduces burnout. Still, I try to balance my life by engaging in activities outside DnD, such as going to the gym, hiking, and spending time with friends unfamiliar with DnD beyond what they’ve seen in “Stranger Things”.
Tell us something people would be surprised to learn about you.
My two favorite genres of music are jazz and power metal. My playlist frequently switches between Herbie Hancock and Sabaton.
What are your goals for 2024?
I am looking to branch into other forms of content creation. I plan on starting long form content on my YouTube channel, Twitch Stream, and diversify my TikTok content a bit more to engage with the community.
Any upcoming projects you can share?
While I can’t reveal all the details, expect to see me as a player in some projects sooner rather than later.
