McKenna Camille is an actress and singer/songwriter in New York City. She is currently balancing life as a student at The Tisch School for Dramatic Arts with her work as a musician. I interviewed McKenna on her life and her plans for the future.
What drew you into acting and music?
Hannah Montana. I was about six when the show started and I remember telling my dad that I was going to be her, it was that simple. Since then, I started piano and singing lessons, joined choir and then fell in love with theater and being on stage.
What is your process for breaking down a character?
I love observing people in my day-to-day life. I like watching how people are walking, how they interact with others etc. Recently I have tried implementing that same idea into my character work. So, looking at the punctuation of a character’s lines for example.
What do you look for in a film role?
I have so many roles I would love to work on, but at the moment I am really loving working with very bubbly characters, and characters that really know themselves.
What is your song writing process?
I start writing songs at the most random times, rarely do I actually sit down to write. I can be mid conversation with someone, and they will say a random word that will spark something and then suddenly I’m going down a rabbit hole of writing. It’s very spontaneous and I love that.
Do you have any aspirations to appear on Broadway?
I’m an actor in New York City, so of course I do! Film is what I am mainly focused on at the moment, but I would love to be on Broadway. Living in the city has allowed me to go to so many different shows, and I have such an appreciation for Broadway.
What is your advice for keeping a healthy work/life balance?
Scheduling is your best friend. I always make sure to schedule in time for myself during the week. This helps with making sure I don’t experience burnout as often.
Tell us something people would be surprised to learn about you.
I am on a performance water ski team! We do super cool tricks on skis, and it is one of my favorite pass times.
What are your goals for 2023?
I have so many personal and professional goals for 2023, but I think my main goal is to be happy in what I am doing and figure out what I don’t necessarily like.

I have so many songs in the works right now I am so excited to share them soon!
