Actor and Cosplayer Tarik Ellinger is now adding Entrepreneur to his resume. This week Tarik launched his skateboard company Devin Skateboards. The company represents the rebellious style of youth and was established in 2015 with his childhood friend. I was excited I was able to interview with budding entrepreneur about his acting career and his new company!
What drew you into acting?
Growing up, I was always on set with my sister and eventually I just fell in love with the environment and the idea of playing other characters. I wanted to try it for myself!
What is your process for breaking down a character?
Breaking down a character is one of the hardest parts of acting, but also the most fun. I typically take into account the current scene the character is in, their emotions, how they would react to certain situations and respond. You really have to put yourself in their shoes and surround your mindset of who THEY are.
What do you look for in a film role?
Although I have played various roles, I always enjoy film roles that I feel a collection to and can almost relate to in a way. It really helps when trying to figure out who this character is. I do enjoy a challenge by playing a totally different character than who I am as well!
Tell us about how you got into doing cosplay.
I’m a huge comic book/fandom nerd, and so every year I would cosplay as some of my favorite characters at conventions. It’s almost like acting, because I get to act as if I’m the character I love. More recently I’ve gotten into professional cosplay which was with the help of good friends of mine Benjamin Farren and Carly King.

What is your advice for keeping a healthy work/life balance?
If you feel overwhelmed and stressed, be sure to take the time you need to yourself. There’s nothing wrong with needing a break. Working and balancing a social life can be very difficult.
Tell us something people would be surprised to learn about you.
I absolutely love cooking! Especially for my friends.
What are your goals for 2023?
I want to grow my skateboard business, Devin Skateboarding, and continue to find success with it. I’m still in school, but I would love to be more active in acting. Also looking to gain connections with Disney and DC for my cosplay work!
