Skyla Disney is a model and content creator that accidentally found herself in the business. After being scouted by a photographer, Skyla’s career took off and soon she found herself accidentally becoming a Micro Influencer. Recently, I interviewed Skyla on her start in the business as well as her upcoming plans.

How did you get started in the business?

I started out modeling as a baby but took a break from it as I got older. A few years ago, I was approached by a photographer who invited me to participate in a commercial shoot for a makeup brand and it reminded me of how fun it was to do it. I had amazing people around me who encouraged and supported me in pursuing modeling, which then led to other opportunities in acting and dancing, but modeling is what really has my heart at the moment.

What do you love most about modeling?

Modeling is a lot of fun because I get a chance to wear some really unique outfits that you don’t see every day, but the best part is all of the amazing people that I meet along the way.

How did you get started as a content creator?

I really started out using social media to have a place to post my modeling stuff. I met a lot of other content creators through modeling, and it turned out to just be a really fun thing to do. After a while, I started getting brands reaching out to me on social media to make content, so it really just happened by accident.

How do you handle negative comments on your social media?

I realize that there will always be people out there who won’t like you for whatever reasons. All I can do is continue to be me and hope that I’m being a positive influence. I know who I am and I just ignore the hate.

What advice do you have for aspiring content creators?

Surround yourself with genuine people who encourage you to be better and who will support you and be there for you.

Not only do you work, but you also go to school full-time. How do you balance everything?

It’s not always easy to balance everything but I’ve found that it’s best to finish as much of my homework as I can during school hours, so I have more time after school for everything else.

Do you have any upcoming projects or collaborations you can share with us?

I think the thing I’m most looking forward to coming up is LA Fashion Week.

What is the one thing that would surprise us to know about you?

I think most people are surprised that my future goals aren’t entirely in the entertainment industry. While I do love it and will continue to pursue my goals there, I do also want to work in healthcare. My hope for the future is to be able to balance both of those careers.
