Savannah Judy was born to perform. Drawn to music as an infant, she has taken that passion to a new height by forming Duplexity with her brother Luke Judy. Duplexity is an Indie Rock band that just released their debut single ‘Billboards’ on August 2nd. Currently Savannah is busy recording music and filming music videos, but thankfully she took the time for this interview about her music and her future plans.

What drew you into music?

I have always been drawn to everything musical. Even as a baby my parents say I was humming and singing and my favorite thing to watch on tv were the Baby Einstein videos that were set to classical music. My parents also are a huge musical influence on both of us. I think our first guitars were paper toy guitars, followed by acoustic guitar, then when I was 7, I got my first electric guitar from Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd and started taking lessons.

What is your process for breaking down a song?

I don’t really have a process for breaking down a song. For me, it’s always about inspiration. I cannot force myself to write, it has to be organic. The good thing is that I am inspired constantly by so many things. I have had a song writing journal since I was 7 years old and every time I get inspired or an idea, I write it down. A lot of the time when I am writing, I will revisit all the notes in the book, and I usually work on multiple songs.

What inspires you more in a song- the music or the lyrics?

That’s a hard one because I am a vocalist and a musician. I would have to say it depends on the song. Some songs have the most amazing lyrics and melodies and that is why I love the song. Then other songs have the best guitar solos or base lines and that is why I love that song or songs. So, yea I am going to have to say it just depends on the individual song.

Tell us about your newest single Billboards.

‘Billboards’ is Duplexity’s debut single off our EP that we are releasing on October 20th. It is a fun punky, pop song that is a sort of anthem of our child acting experiences in Los Angeles the last 10 years. We wanted the song to be upbeat, fun, and full of life just like the city of LA. We pay homage to Hollywood and poke fun at the craziness that comes along with being an actor, especially a child actor.

What is your advice for keeping a healthy work/life balance?

I would have to say my advice for keeping a work life balance is to do something that you are so passionate about, so it never feels like you are working. Also, go to the gym every day and keep yourself healthy. That is what I do. I have made it a priority to work out every day in some way since my 14th birthday. I love to feel fit and heathy. It really helps to train a lot and be as healthy as you can be when you are working toward a deadline and pushing yourself.

Tell us something people would be surprised to learn about you.

Something people would be surprised or interested to learn about me is that I am in my second year of cosmetology apprenticeship. I graduated school at 16 with 23 college credits and a 4.17 GPA. I wanted to get my cosmetology license before I start college so I can work in our family business as I pursue my degree.

What are your goals for 2023?

A lot of my goals for 2023 I have accomplished through forming Duplexity with Luke. We have made our own original music and we released our debut single. The rest of my goals are to release our first EP on October 20th and perform as much as I possibly can. I am in my happy place when I am on stage performing our music!

Any upcoming projects you can share?

Our upcoming projects are we are releasing our second single September 8th entitled ‘Drop the Act’, then we are releasing a third single entitled ‘Demons’. Finally, we are releasing our first EP on October 20th. We are also in the process of filming our music video for ‘Billboards’.
